Insecure: Is It Okay For Women To Cheat?

When it comes to relationships, cheating is without a doubt one of the biggest deal breakers because it kills the trust that exists between couples. However, more often than not, the society tends to give women a pass when it comes to cheating because while men can cheat without reason, women are given a pass when they do the same. This is because it has to be the man’s fault when she goes astray as he wasn’t man enough to hold his woman down and this is what played out in HBO’s Insecure when Issa Rae’s character cheated on Lawrence, a man who has held her down for years.

While there was a major uproar on social media, it wasn’t as unified as you would expect when it is a man cheating as a lot of people blamed Lawrence for being a bum who just couldn’t get a job and made his woman lose respect for him. Thus she had no choice but to cheat on him with a real man.  How crazy is this? Isn’t cheating supposed to be bad regardless of who is involved?

On the other hand, a lot of folks were angry about the fact that Issa Dee cheated because she is a “woman” which makes it even worse and it got me thinking if men can cheat why can’t women do the same? What’s good for the goose is good for the gander right?

This brings us to this ultimate question, is cheating ever right and if it is, in what circumstances would you give it a pass?

There are always double standards when it comes to infidelity. Men will always be given a pass to cheat but when a woman does, she is labelled as a whore. But why? Cheating is bad, no matter the party that’s cheating and no excuse should be made for going astray.

It is never okay to cheat. If someone is unhappy in their relationship then they need to be woman or man enough to exit stage left or right. Issa was definitely wrong, I probably would have slapped the hell out of Lawrence if he called me a hoe to my face, but Issa was wrong for cheating.
