TICKLES.TV’s ANGRY BLACK WOMEN NAMED AS OFFICIAL SELECTION IN NEW YORK TELEVISION FESTIVAL’S 2016 INDEPENDENT PILOT COMPETITION

One of 63 Projects Chosen for Flagship Competition at 12th Annual Festival, Taking Place October 24-29, 2016

Atlanta, GA, August 15, 2016 The NYTVF (www.nytvf.com), an organization dedicated to identifying and nurturing top independent creative talent and connecting it with networks, studios, digital media companies, agencies, and brands, today announced the official selections for its flagship Independent Pilot Competition (IPC), including ANGRY BLACK WOMEN, created by Dahéli Hall (MADtv) and HaJ (Creator & Founder of Tickles.TV). The comedy is one of 63 original television and digital projects that will be presented for industry decision-makers and TV fans at the 12th Annual New York Television Festival.

The NYTVF, which is considered by the industry as the preeminent independent television showcase in the world, was launched in 2005 as the first festival with a focus on independently-created television content. Each year the Festival produces dozens of events for artists, executives, and fans, while facilitating hundreds of thousands of dollars in development and production funding from its industry partners, available to a select group of Official Artists. This year, the independent television showcase will take place in New York City from October 24-29 at The Helen Mills Theater and Event Space, with additional Festival events at Tribeca Three Sixty° and SVA Theatre.

“We’re thrilled to present these 63 exceptional projects as Official Selections in the 2016 Independent Pilot Competition,” said NYTVF Founder Terence Gray. “With more submissions than ever before, the bar was raised across every category, and we’re looking at a line-up full of emerging and established talent, outstanding production values, and truly original voices. 2016 is shaping up to be a banner year for the New York Television Festival, and we can’t wait to share these projects in October.”

In addition to being part of the annual independent television showcase, IPC selections will compete in a variety of categories (including “Best Comedy” and “Best Drama”) by a jury comprised of the NYTVF screening committee and the emerging television executives selected for the NYTVF-HRTS Next Generation Committee, with winners being announced at an October 29 closing night awards reception.

As Official Artists, the creators of these pilots qualify for a chance to receive a development deal from one of the NYTVF’s Development Partners – networks and studios which have guaranteed they will offer at least one deal to independent artists this year. These independent creators also have exclusive access to the NYTVF’s industry partners through the NYTVF Connect marketplace, which includes opportunities to meet, network, and pitch some of the top network, digital, and studio executives in the business.

Tickles.TV creator and founder HaJ states, “ The ANGRY BLACK WOMEN comedy series is a reflection of the Tickles.TV mission in aiming to entertaining while sparking critical thinking about race, culture, class and gender from the lens of Black women in society, a perspective that is still fighting to be recognized in mainstream media in particularly comedies.”

ANGRY BLACK WOMEN certainly has the support of Justin Simien of Dear White People who calls the project “smart & of the moment…”

 About ANGRY BLACK WOMEN

ANGRY BLACK WOMEN is created and produced by Dahéli Hall (MADtv) and HaJ (Creator & Founder of Tickles.TV) who also star. The satire deliberately spoofs its title’s derogatory term and delves into the openly biased entertainment industry. It punctuates how the rules for Black women are different and uniquely juxtaposes racism and sexism in Los Angeles and Atlanta, a.k.a Black Hollywood.  The project stems from the real lives of its creators, who have interpreted their experiences as writers and performers working in Hollywood. Catch up on the vlog series on www.tickles.tv the premiere destination for comedy, culture, conversation for Urban Chameleon Millennials; people who chameleon between white corporate chameleon and their kinky hair handling, curry spice eating, hip gyrating, I-N-G droppin’ America ‘cause it’s complicated out here in these streets.
